Great Western School consists of: Hispanic (71%), White (26%), African American (1.2%), American Indians (1.2%), and Filipino (0.6%) students. Socio-economically Disadvantaged students make up 60.4% of the population, English Learners 46% of the population, and Students with Disabilities make up 10% of the schoolwide population.
Within the general community there are several fruit packing sheds and other industry associated with agriculture. A majority of the parents of the school children are employed within the farming community. The Great Western Staff consists of the following: 18 full and part time classroom teachers, a Resource Teacher, Speech and Language Specialist, a part-time Academic Coach, a librarian, office staff, 3 bilingual instructional aides, full and part-time custodial staff, as well as support staff which include a psychologist and nurse.
